Our Founder

In Memoriam: Billy Franklin Lindler, Sr.

Founder & Visionary (1954 – 2022)

The foundation of USSI was built upon the vision, intellect, and character of our founder, Billy Franklin Lindler, Sr. A man of immense drive and technical brilliance, Mr. Lindler dedicated his life to engineering excellence and the pursuit of smarter, safer material handling solutions.

A Legacy of Engineering Excellence

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. Lindler’s journey into engineering began with his acceptance into the prestigious U.S. Air Force Academy and culminated in his graduation from Georgia Tech in 1976 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

This rigorous technical background became the bedrock of USSI. When he founded the company in 1982, he didn’t just want to build a business; he wanted to apply his civil engineering expertise to solve the most complex logistical challenges of the furniture and warehousing industries. His reputation as a “visionary” was earned through decades of turning empty spaces into high-performance hubs of commerce.

A Life of Service and Leadership

Beyond the blueprints and warehouse floors, Mr. Lindler was a man of deep conviction and community involvement. His leadership extended into numerous fraternal and historical organizations, reflecting his respect for tradition and integrity:

  • Professional Visionary: A highly regarded expert in furniture retail operations.
  • Civic Duty: A dedicated Mason and member of the Knights Templar.
  • Heritage: A proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution (S.A.R.).

The Mentor and the "Family" Culture

While his accolades were many, those who knew him best remember him as a mentor. Mr. Lindler took great joy in sharing his knowledge, guiding the next generation of engineers, and treating his clients and employees like family. His love for life—whether through fine dining or world travel—was infectious and helped shape the “Customer for Life” culture that remains the pulse of USSI today.
